Yakusoku Kumite

Yakusoku Kumite- the practice of attack and counter attack with one or more opponents.  Practitioners practice tsuranuki(full follow through) meaning going through the target for proper timing, distance and maximum power.  Practitioners also practice Tai and Ashi Sabaki(Body and Foot Movement) for escaping and counter attacking while focusing on proper distance, target and timing.  Eventually students apply full speed and power simulating a full contact match with minimal risk of injury.  Kumite can be practiced safely with or without protective gear.

Tanshiki Kumite- Is practiced Prearranged or Freestyle where Tori(attacker) launches a single attack, while Uke(defender) practices counter attack using any combination of escape, defensive technique and offensive technique.  For safety reasons protective armor is used when practicing freestyle.

Fukushiki Yakusoku Kumite- Pre-arranged fighting forms using sequence of techniques and motions practiced by two or more opponents in a predetermined way.  Yakusoku kumite allows karatedo students to benefit from karatedo training without the risks of free fighting.
