Shihan Grima

Shihan John Grima teaches at the Nassau County PAL units in Westbury and Uniondale.  Mr. Grima is ranked Rokudan(6th degree) black belt with the title Shihan(Master Teacher) in the Kenkyukai Karate Federation and is Chief Instructor of Shorinjiryu Kenkyukai Karatedo.  He has trained in Shorinjiryu Karate under the guidance of several distinguished Masters. 

John began his Karate training in 1981 under the guidance of Shihan John A. Mirrione and has been teaching for the Nassau County PAL as well as other locations in New York since 1985.  His principal mentor is Saiko Shihan Shunji Watanabe who is a direct student of the late Kaiso Kori Hisataka(founder of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo).  On several occasions he has also had the privilege of learning from Hanshi Masayuki Hisataka(founder Kori Hisataka’s son).

In addition to Karate training, Mr. Grima has supplemented his martial arts knowledge with Judo training under Sensei Kiyoshi Shiina(8th degree) and Sensei Hank Kraft(6th degree) both certified by the Kodokan in Japan. 

John is known for his technical expertise as well as his teaching ability.  He has an impressive record of tournament success as a black belt competitor.  In addition, his students have also proven successful in tournament competition while always demonstrating good sportsmanship and etiquette.

 

       
       
             
   

Sensei Cinquemani

Sensei Joseph Cinquemani began his study of Shorinjiryu Karate in 1973 under Sensei Richard Raab.  In 1979 Sensei Cinquemani began studying with Sensei Fred Marcus after his instructor Richard Raab retired from teaching karatedo.  He earned his Shodan(1st degree black belt) in 1981 and eventually his Yodan(4th degree black belt) in 1994 under the supervision of Shihan Fred Marcus and Saiko Shihan Shunji Watanabe.

Joe has achieved many victories as a Black Belt division tournament fighter and has earned a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable Shorinjiryu instructors in the United States.

In January 2003, Sensei Cinquemani joined his longtime friend and training partner Shihan John Grima in forming the Kenkyukai school of Shorinjiryu Karatedo and is currently ranked Godan(5th degree black belt) in the Kenkyukai Karate Federation.
